Top Social Networking Apps in Portugal Q1 2023

In Q1 2023, the social networking landscape in Portugal was dominated by five key apps: WhatsApp Messenger, Telegram Messenger, Facebook, Messenger, and BeReal: Photos & Friends Daily. Here’s a closer look at their performance based on data from Sensor Tower.

WhatsApp Messenger saw its weekly downloads fluctuate, starting at 34.2K at the end of December and dropping to around 18.4K by the end of March. The app maintained a high level of weekly active users, with a slight increase from 6.45M to 6.51M over the quarter. In terms of revenue, WhatsApp Messenger recorded a minor uptick, reaching $25 in the last week of March.

Telegram Messenger experienced variable weekly downloads, peaking at 17.1K in early February and declining to 11.9K by the end of March. The app's weekly revenue showed a notable increase mid-quarter, reaching approximately $2.2K in the week of February 20, and ended the quarter at around $1.2K. Active users held steady, with a peak of 607K in mid-March before settling at 586K by the end of the quarter.

Facebook showed a downward trend in both weekly downloads and active users. Downloads decreased from 20.6K at the end of December to around 14.2K by the end of March. Active users also declined from 5.00M to 4.85M over the same period. Revenue saw a gradual decrease, starting at $3.1K in the last week of December and dropping to $2K by the end of March.

Messenger had a steady decrease in weekly downloads, starting at 23.2K at the end of December and ending at around 13.7K by late March. Active users exhibited a slight decline from 2.38M to 2.26M over the quarter. The app's revenue was minimal, with occasional spikes, the highest being $104 in the last week of December.

BeReal: Photos & Friends Daily saw its weekly downloads decline from 12.9K at the end of December to approximately 5.6K by the end of March. Active users also showed a downward trend, decreasing from 313K to 270K over the quarter.
